Other than a short woodland trail the course for the penultimate mid Lanc’s X/C at Leigh sports village was dry flat and fast!
Although a decision was made by coach Steve Priestley to rest some of the juniors due to a packed season in preparation for the nationals in 2 weeks time
The Kendal AAC athletes still put in some stunning performances .
U11 from the gun Kate Collin was in contention for the top spot keeping up the pressure right to the line for a well earned 2nd place Lara Smith followed 13th and Isla Ford 25th the girls finished an impressive 2nd team in a field of 78.
The strong U11 boys team finished 3rd as the boys packed well Noah Wadsworth 8th, Leo Ranner 11th, Alfie Addison 13th followed by 10 yr old twins Josh & Alfie Todd.
There was a breathtaking performance by Sarah Smith who’s gutsy mature run earned her a race win in U 13, and with another year in the age group. Sophie Cowin 15th place was one to be proud of.
A stunning run by footballer Louis Bigland earned him 4th U13. He was backed up by Jack Hewitson, Rio Egner & Oliver Willoughby.
The U15 Boys continued to impress & it was Daniel Sanderson who stuck with the lead group of four keeping a strong head to finish 1st . James Bowen was 5th with Henry Hunter 8th, Harry Bowen 12th & John Egner followed for a 1st team place.
Rosie Woodhams returned after overcoming a foot injury for 3rd U17 proving that a shorter distance is no obstacle for an all round athlete .
The excitement continued in the U17 men’s race with Jacob Smith running his best race of the season 3rd
Ultra runner Sally Ford’s 15th place was a good warm up for a marathon the following day. Next was Jackie Nowell, Hazel Clark, Carolyn Kevan 6th V55, Paula Bowen, Dianne Priestley 1st V65, Sue Booth & Joanne Pennington. Carolyn, Dianne, & Sue were 2nd V55 team. Jackie, Carolyn & Paula were 4th V45 team.
With just 4 seconds separating 3rd 4th & 5th place Jonny Dry’s 5th spot was a great result. For Tom Hartley it was yet another fine race 18th. The vet 40 men’s team had a runaway victory Quinten Gratrix 7th, Matt Wilson 9th, Richard Wilson 11th & Joe Todd 13th posting the same time as Joe was Will Sisson. Matt Dunn, Stuart McGurk, Mick Walsh, Stephen Roberts & Mark Walker brought the teams home 4th A & 3rd B teams.
